Success Stories

I have been hypothyroid since I was 17, and while synthroid worked at first, all my old symptoms came back a few years ago. I couldn't stay up past 6:30 in the evening, I was moody and snappish much of the time, kept gaining weight despite a strict workout regimen and a healthy diet, and my hair and skin were a mess. I cried all the time and had a hard time handling even small stressors. In response, my doctor just kept upping my synthroid dosage, but it didn't help. I found information on Wilson's Temperature Syndrome on the web last May and checked my temperature. My "normal" temperature was at or around 95.9 degrees.

I went to see a doctor recommended by the WTS website, and it has really changed my life. After reading everyone else's success stories, I was skeptical and often frustrated because my temperature just wasn't normalizing, and though there were good days, there were also a lot of days when I felt positively awful. Then, last month, my temperature finally captured. I've been at or near 98.6 for over a month, and I feel great! I've gone from extreme depression and feeling like it's too much work to get off the sofa, to feeling happy most of the time and jumping out of bed in the morning, energized and looking forward to another day. I feel like a human being again.

I am enormously grateful to Dr. Wilson for his persistence and his willingness to share his findings, and for responsible, compassionate doctors like Dr. Geoffrey Drew. Thank you both for giving me back my life!

My friend out in Tucson completed her first cycle with fabulous results. Within a few days on the T3, she said,

"I actually feel sane for the first time in my life! It's so refreshing to be able to follow a logical thought process from start to finish, and not feel like I have to react with violent emotion to every little thing that happens. My mind is already so strong that within a few weeks, I expect to be able to bend spoons with it."

She has since moved to San Francisco, and is starting her third cycle. After experiencing the thrill of mental sharpness and clarity that comes with a normal body temperature, she really hates tapering off and feeling it slip away. Once she captures her temperature and is able to hold it with out the pills, I fear she will become a "temperature snob" looking down her nose at anyone with an "inferior" body temperature.

I have only been taking the supplements for about a week now, but the temperature has risen from 97.6 to about 97.9 on the average. Much improved energy and ability to concentrate. Thanks for the follow up. Will keep you posted.

Question & Answers

I have been having problems with heart palpitations for a while and went to a heart specialist. As a result, I had some blood work done and noticed that my thyroid (T3) count was a little low. Through internet research I wondered if I had a low temperature problem and took my temp for 5 days in a row and it was never above 97. I also noted that many of the symptoms for low thyroid were depression, low energy, high cholesterol, a problem with weight gain, etc. I have a lot of those symptoms. I have never had a high cholesterol count or weight gain, but now I do. Could you possibly have a solution? I realize my thyroid isn't that low but something is affecting my heart.
Thank you, Kay in Jacksonville, FL

Low body temperatures can influence the behavior of the circulatory system. For example, low temperatures can contribute to low blood pressure which can sometimes lead to compensatory bursts of adrenaline. This can leave some people with an inclination towards panic attacks or heart feelings that could be described as palpitations. Normalizing the body temperature can often correct such complaints. Of course there are many possible explanations for heart palpitations. It's good that you have been evaluated by a heart specialist. And yes, a low temperature is enough to explain the other symptoms you mentioned.

There are herbal formulas available (such as Cardiac Px Titrate, and Cardiac Px Capsules) that can be helpful in supporting heart function in patients who are not on or who are on thyroid treatment.

Can thyroid problems cause muscle weakness? My arms are very weak and I am exhausted along with other symptoms and they have checked everything out thinking it was MS but so far it is not. I was taken off thyroid in Sept of 05 because I was showing "Normal" on my test after being removed from it, but I feel awful! I was on Armour thyroid.

Yes, both low and elevated thyroid function can cause symptoms of muscle weakness. A low temperature can cause fatigue and muscle weakness and hypothyroidism or WTS can cause a low body temperature.

Best wishes,

Can you take ThyroCare while you are on just Synthroid? Will it help raise body temperature?

Yes ThyroCare can be taken along with thyroid medication. It is not a thyroid hormone, it is like a specialized food that provides adjunctive herbal and nutritional support for healthy thyroid function. It is indicated for low body temperatures.

Warmly,
Denis Wilson, MD
