I have been taking [T3]. I do feel better. I am not freezing all the time and the biggest difference I am noticing is that I don't feel anxious and annoyed anymore. My energy also seems to be up and I feel all around happier. I am hoping this continues and other symptoms (easy weight gain, food intolerances, digestive problems) will get better with time.

Thank you!

I'm just beginning to learn about WTS, however, after trying to research and get help for what is wrong with me for 25 years, I am amazed at how thorough, clear and concise this website is. It is set up for REAL people and it is incredible how much thought and care has been put into helping people understand every aspect.

Thanks, Cathy R.

I just wanted to say that I had a good success with the T3 treatment a few years ago through Dr. Gene Denk in Los Angeles, California. On a routine examination one day, he noticed that my body temperatures was 96.7. He then had me take my temperature for a few days and give him a report. It turned out to be well below 98.0 for that period, so he started me on a regimen of T3 therapy.

The main thing that cleared up for me was chronic constipation for which I had been having to take laxatives on a daily basis for months. Needless to say, I was very pleased, and I have been free of that chronic condition ever since. Also of note is that all my life I had tested normal for thyroid, but somehow I knew something was wrong. That was true! Thank you so much for your therapy.

Sincerely,

Betsy Pearson

Question & Answers

[My doctor] has me taking T3 in the morning and only in the morning. Can taking the T3 once a day work as well as twice? To begin my thyroid treatment the doctor gave me a T4/T3 combination then switched to just T3 and each time I see him he asks if this combination worked better. After beginning the therapy I felt more energetic for several months. I'm not sure which one worked better but I seem to have lost much of the energy I gained when I began medications a year and a half ago. I appreciate any information you could give me on the subject.

Thank You,
Mary Kay

Some people will tolerate once a day dosing well and others will not (especially on higher doses). Some people can feel less energetic when their T3 levels are unsteady. Once a day dosing can contribute to unsteady T3 levels. When patients respond favorably to a T4 Test dose that is a good indicator that they are experiencing unsteady T3 levels.

Patients who are experiencing unsteady T3 levels may benefit from following the WT3 protocol which calls for twice a day dosing.

Also, people's bodies tend to acclimate to the T3 after being on it for months and then their bodies may be more inclined to tolerate more easily the once a day dosing.

I have had great sucess with the compounded T3 ! I lose weight, my depression goes away, my cycle regulates, my hair stops falling out and has a normal texture etc, etc. But after getting my temps regulated and my doctor takes me off the T3, within a few months all the symtoms return and my temps are all over the chart again. The doctor has let me do the T3 about 5-6 times over the past couple of years. I was very careful to follow your protcol, read your manual etc. But my last appt she said it was not good to be on the T3 for an extented amount of time and that she thought I needed some Armour to keep things steady after she took me off the T3 the last time my temps regulated. Within a month the symptoms were all back. When I called to ask if they could up the Armour from 30 mg. they freaked out saying the symptoms were from the Armour and I better come see them ( a 4 hr drive) for blood tests to see if I had too much. Well my whole problem has been that my TSH is in the low "normal" range. So that is how I found your web site through "MY" own research, because I have been told for 16 yrs my TSH was normal so all those symptoms could NOT be my thyroid. The symptoms were from not enough Armour or T3 , not too much. So my question is what do you do for those of us that seem to need the T3 all the time? Are there others like this?
Your reply would be appreciated

Dear Jody,

The WT3 protocol is a treatment that can be helpful in restoring normal body temperature patterns. Normal body temperatures often seem to recalibrate the function of the body to the point that people can remain improved off treatment. In other words, just normalizing the temperatures themselves, in many cases, seems to be able to break the vicious cycle or downward spiral that so many people seem to be stuck in and convert it into an upward spiral of improving health.

When the correction doesn't hold there are a couple of possibilities. First, the same stressors that were at play to cause the low temperatures to begin with might still be at play. If job or family stresses, nutritional deficiencies, and/or toxicities (for example) are not addressed, then they can cause relapses just as they caused the initial temperature drop.

Anything people can do to improve their health and well being may help them to maintain a normal temperature. People can use strategies to reduce stress, improve diet and exercise, and perhaps to detoxify their bodies. Some people that have had their mercury amalgums removed followed by detoxifying chelation, for example, have noticed their temperatures come up and stay up.

Some people are able to avoid relapses by taking a small prophylactic dose of T3. For example, whereas they might need 30 mcg / dose while cycling on and off T3, some do well by weaning down and staying on 7.5 mcg / dose indefinitely. This may provide the body with some "encouragement" to not fall back into WTS.

Some people do seem to have a very strong hereditary predisposition toward developing low body temperatures. Such people might actually need long term care of one sort or another.

Some people can use the T3 prophylactically just during times of stress. In other words, they can stay off the T3 most of the time, but might take 7.5 mcg / dose for a day before, the day of, and the day after a stressful event to help ward off relapses.

Yes, there are other patients that don't seem to feel well on any other thyroid replacement than T3 alone, and many doctors have no problem leaving patients on T3 alone indefinitely. Doctors can always monitor such patients over time if they have any concerns about any long term effects.

Best regards,

I have been on the T3 protocol for a month now. I reached 90 mcg and have been holding there for 2 weeks. My temperature is climbing (in the past two days it has been 98.4/98.5). Even though my temp is up, I am still having all my symptoms...headaches, cold hands/feet, sluggish, some bouts of extreme exhaustion.

Thank you for any help you can offer,
Dawn B.

Hi Dawn,

You may want to look at this part of the Doctor's Manual. You see, there are two goals of the WT3 therapy and they are not always accomplished at the same time. In other words, people can get to feeling better off treatment even though they don't feel very well on treatment. Some people only notice feeling better after the treatment has been discontinued.

The reason for this is that correcting the problem is often dependent on "capturing" the temperature, but feeling well on the treatment often depends on being able to keep the T3 levels steady enough for the patient to feel well. Even when patients take the medicine perfectly on time and never make a mistake on their dosing times they may still have difficulty keeping their T3 levels steady enough to feel well.

Some patients that aren't feeling better on WT3 therapy can sometimes notice an improvement when given a T4 test dose as described in this link.

Best wishes,
Denis Wilson, MD
