I am on a low dosage (5 mcg.) of T3 just for maintenance during the cold
months. I will probably be able to go off entirely when the weather gets
warmer in the Spring. It took a long time to get to this point. It will
take some time to get everything righted again. I am so thankful for Dr.
Wilson's discovery and for my doctor for treating me. I was ready to give
up. Please share this with others.

Question & Answers

Unable to find a Dr. in Oklahoma City who knows about WTS. Do the supplements, Adaptogen, ThyroCare, Healthy Foundation assist without the T3 from a doctor?

The WTSmed supplements help support the thyroid system. We suggest consulting with a qualified healthcare practitioner about whether the WTSmed suppliments are appropriate for you. If no practitioner can be found, you can use your own discretion about whether to do a therapeutic trial.

I am a 70 year old female and am taking meds for hypertension and thyroid. I just had a physical (temp 97.2) and got a good report on all sides...my question is, is it safe for someone of my age to begin this protocol or would it be a waste of time and money, in your opinion...also, I would prefer not to have to go to a doctor since it is some distance to drive...

When we use the word protocol we are usually referring to the WT3 protocol which involves T3 medicine prescribed by a doctor. Some patients over 70 have used the WT3 protocol and fared well, however, it should always be managed under a doctor's care. I do think that the older the patient the greater the risk and I have counselled some older patients (and young ones for that matter) not to pursue the WT3 protocol.

On the other hand, if you are referring to the WTSmed supplements, some of those are available over the internet and are generally very well tolerated.

Best wishes,

I am an eager reader of your newsletter. I know I have had problems with my thyroid ever since I had a toxic adenom removed almost thirty years ago--but my tests were always normal, so nobody wanted to do anything about it. About three years ago I discovered that I had low body temperature and a lot of other symptoms indicating low thyroid. That is how I found your website. I was ready to find a specialist who would treat me. Upon my request my family doctor once again made a series of blood tests--and apparently I have ANA of 160. Total T4 is O.8 and total T3 is elevated at 190. Checking your website for help I read that people with an autoimmune disorder do not have success with the WT3 protocol. Do you have a suggestion as to what is best to do. What does it mean to have an elevated total T3 level?

Thank you so much for listening. I enjoy your caring responses in the Newsletter.

Dear Sylvia,

I found on our website, in a past Newsletter, a letter from a woman who said she had autoimmune disease and did not tolerate thyroid treatment well. I wonder if that is what you are referring to. People with Hashimoto's thyroiditis can have high ANA's and they can respond well to the WT3 protocol.

Some people with high ANA's don't have symptoms of autoimmune disease, but the higher their ANA titers the greater the chance of them having an autoimmune disease. A variety of autoimmune disorders can lead to elevated ANA titers.

Some people with high T3 levels respond well to the WT3 protocol, that's part of the reason that WTS is undiagnosable with thyroid blood tests.

Depending on the normal ranges of your laboratory, your T4 sounds low. If your TSH is high you may have hypothyroidism which might be due to Hashimoto's thyroiditis which often responds well to the WT3 protocol.

Also there are other options outside of the WT3 protocol to support the thyroid system.

ThyroCare can provide the thyroid gland with nutritional support.

Healthy Foundation supports a wide range of processes in the body including digestive, endocrine, adrenal, circulatory, liver, and nervous function.

Though I can't say what's best for you, your doctor can call 800-420-5801 if he'd like to discuss your case for free with a physician.

Hope that helps,
Denis Wilson, MD
