I am currently on T3 and am one of your great success stories. I nearly died prior to proper treatment and this was while I saw one specialist after another. As a Registered Nurse, I knew something was very wrong, but the doctors kept telling me they could not find anything wrong with me. I got lucky and found a doctor using the WT3 protocol and have only improved since that time. The years of missed treatment cost me my hearing and both knees, but after 12 yrs of decline I am now a rising star! I should say THANK-YOU for my future, Earlleen

ThyroCare and Adaptogen have helped me a lot. I had been taking them under the care of Dr. Robert Hutt at Recovery Systems. On WTS treatment, my temperature would not rise to 98.6, so Dr. Hutt added ThyroCare, and that was enough to bump me up over the top for the course of the treatment. During the treatment, I enjoyed many benefits including softer, more naturally lubricated skin, a diminishing of my bald areas around my face, and amazingly, a slowing and fining of the hair growth in my upper lip and chin areas, shortening of depression incidents from weeks to days, a return of sanity in my thinking, less brittle fingernails, and easing of my arthritis. I am eternally grateful to Dr. Hutt, Julia Ross, Recovery Systems, and of course, Dr. Wilson. My life is orders of magnitude better than before.I thank you all so much, and my husband thanks you too, for he loves my newfound sanity. Sincerely, Susan

The ThyroCare has really given me energy and done away with the low energy, tired-feeling that I had become accustomed to. Thanks so much. ...just to have a feeling of energy everyday is a world of difference. Thanks again, Sincerely, Becky E.

I have suffered from thyroid problems since I was a child. Unfortunately, I did not receive effective medical treatment and so was either not treated at all or was given T4, which does not work for me. As a result, I have gained a lot of extra weight over the years. When I started on T3 three years ago at age 34, I was amazed at how good I felt and that I was able to lose weight. However, after losing about 25 pounds in a year and a half, my weight loss slowed and then stopped. I am still well over 200 pounds, so I need to lose at least 80 pounds. I am unclear as to WHEN in the cycle I should try to lose weight: should I try only when my temperature is captured? And then once the symptoms start coming back and the weight loss slows, stop my weight loss efforts and do another cycle and wait until I get my temperature back up? Thanks for any advice you can give me! Montreal, Canada

As you've noticed, weight loss on T3 therapy can sometimes be difficult to predict. It's as if, at times, factors and variables line up in such a way that the weight begins to drop off. And at other times, it seems to slow inexplicably. It can also sometimes be difficult to get the weight loss to resume when it stops. I've often told patients that if they find themselves losing weight then they should do everything they can to "not rock the boat" (by missing doses or by cycling to try to get a greater effect) and to let as much of the weight come off as possible. One benefit to getting weight off while the getting is good is that the more weight people are able to get off, it is often easier for them to continue losing (this is true when patients are using T3 therapy to keep their temperatures up, while the opposite is true when people are dieting unprotected). But to answer your questions, I think that people can begin watching their diet and exercise when their temperature is normal (even if you are cycling up and not yet captured) but I would suggest avoiding extremes if they are making it difficult to manage the T3 therapy and keep it stabilized. When weight loss has stopped for a period of weeks, perhaps another cycle might prove helpful in getting it started again. However, I have seen people have difficulty getting their weight loss started again, even with cycling. Sometimes, they might start losing weight while they're weaning off. And if they do, they might want to stay at that dose and lose as much as they can. It's hard to predict what factors line up to result in weight loss, that's why I think it prudent to take careful advantage of it whenever it occurs in the cycling process. Hope that helps, Denis Wilson, MD

If a daily temperature averages 97 over 3 readings but can sometimes range from 95.2 to 98.2 (before treatment) with main symptoms being fatigue, muscle aches, anxiety and heartbeat awareness, and a whole lot more, does this mean that the endogenous T3 supplies are unsteady? Would the WT3 protocol be useful, or would it make the levels more unsteady? I have read the WTS books and have an appointment with an endocrinologist who will probably be unaware of WTS as I live in England, so I need to be able to convince him to supervise me if the treatment is appropriate.

I have not noticed whether wide-ranging temperatures before treatment are predictive for increased chances of unsteadiness during treatment with T3. It's possible that the wide-ranging temperatures are due to some other factor other than just T3. It's hard for me to imagine unsteady endogenous T3 supplies though we must suppose that is possible. One thing to bear in mind is that T3 therapy begins suppressing endogenous T3 immediately. The concern with unsteady T3 levels grows with the dosage of T3 people are taking. The higher the dose of T3, the lower the endogenous (made by the body) production. Thus, it seems that how well a person tolerates exogenous T3 (taken by mouth) may be more important than how steady their own T3 supply. And the only way to determine that is by trying the treatment to see. Nevertheless, it does make sense that T3 unsteadiness from any source might be unfavorable so I feel it's a good consideration. You might also consider supporting the adrenal system. The adrenal system often has to work overtime trying to make up for shortcomings in the thyroid system. Best wishes, D. Wilson, MD

I am working with a Medical Dr. and a Naturopathic Dr. The Medical Dr. says there's nothing wrong with me. The Naturopathic Dr. says I have a hyperactive thyroid and is giving me FERRUM IODAQTUM 200CH. Three melted under my tongue each morning. I've been doing that for a month. Don't notice much change but she says it will take 3 months or so. I show Bipolar symptoms and have all my life. Is it possible to go between Hypo and Hyper active thyroid thus causing Bipolar like symptoms?

Yes, it is possible to go between Hypo and Hyper active thyroid and I can imagine how that could lead to symptoms reminiscent of Bipolar illness. I recommend that you introduce your Naturopathic Dr. to ThyroCalm Px. It is superb for overactive thyroid, and also has components that are often used in underactive thyroid. Our supplements are designed to stabilize the function of the thyroid system and to nourish and strengthen the health of the thyroid system. Best regards, Denis Wilson, MD
