I have been cycling on T3 now for about 8 or 9 months, I tell everyone that I feel like "I have a life" again. I feel normal, my mind is clearer, my hair grows and grows, my temp goes up, not always at 98.6 but for me my temp was so low for so long that just getting close to 98 makes a big difference to me. Always willing to try something different in order to feel optimal, Donica

My nails have been brittle, ridged, splitting, etc. ever since I had impetigo (& 5 other skin diseases) at age 8. I'm certain it was due to the fungus and other bacteria in the dirt I played in with my neighbor's children. After such a short time on [ThyroCare] my nails are almost normal!!!!! THANK YOU!!! They are the strongest they've ever been, and there are NO hangnails!! Also, I've noticed the balding spot on the back of my head is not so prominent, and my eyebrows have filled out horizontally. In fact, they're down-right bushy! THANX again, Mickey J.

My doctor prescribed me T3. I would take it just like the manual says. When I would hit around 52.5 mcg, I would start to get anxious. So I would end up quitting. I'm wondering if you can take low doses and just stay on them for a couple of weeks and then increase? Or how does Dr. Wilson feel about that? Does it still work that way? Tracy

Dear Tracy, Yes, T3 can be used to good effect in different ways for different people. However, there are certain treatment principles in the Doctor's Manual that, when violated, can increase the chance of side effects and decrease the chances of success. By far, most people do better when the T3 dose is increased quickly rather than slowly. However, people do tend to acclimate, or get used to the T3 they take by mouth. In other words, someone may feel a little anxious on the T3 the first month or two, and then be able to tolerate it better after that. Also, there have been cases reported where people stayed on a low dose for a long time (months) before their temperatures gradually improved and recovered. Thus, they never did go on higher doses. Some people that don't tolerate the T3 very well at first are able to tolerate it much more easily when they use cardiac support such as Cardiac Px Titrate, or Cardiac Px Capsules. Adrenal support can also be very helpful sometimes, such as Adaptogen, Adrenal Px Balance, Adrenal Px DHEA, or Adrenal Px LoBP. Finally, for more information on using T3 according to the same principles but applied in different ways, you can Click Here.

My question is: While taking T-3 I overslept one hour after 15 days on treatment. I took my meds one hour late. I then took my next dose 12 hours later instead of 11 hours later. How does this affect the way the T-3 works if not taken precisely 12 hours apart? My temp stayed the same throughout--98; a nice rise from 96.2 when I started. I feel super. I see my Naturopath soon. She told me not to worry. I am not worried, I am interested in the chemistry of it all. Please explain WHY it must be exactly 12 hours. Should one cycle down and start over when one misses a timely dose?

You can Click Here for a thorough explanation. This explanation shows that if a dose is taken too early it can overlap with, or stack up on, the previous dose. And if a dose is taken too late there can be a gap left between the two doses. There's a big difference between a gap (zero medicine) and a stack (double medicine), and both of these are quite different from doses taken right on time (right amount of medicine). Thus, when dosing is off it can be very destabilizing to the T3 level since a deviation in the dosing can cause a "ripple" that can last in the system for a couple of weeks. People don't necessarily need to wean off a cycle because they miss one dose. But sometimes not taking the medicine on time can lead to such unsteadiness (based on symptoms and progress) that cycling down and starting fresh is sometimes a good idea. Warmly, Denis Wilson, MD

Is there any connection between hypo/hyperthyroidism and hyperparathyroidism? And if so, could proper T3 supplementation correct this condition?

I'm not aware of a connection between hypo/hyperthyroidism and hyperparathyroidism beyond the fact that impaired thyroid function can directly or indirectly affect almost every bodily function. I've not seen or heard of T3 being used to treat hyperparathyroidism, and therefore have not heard any results. Best wishes, Denis Wilson, MD
