Taking my temperature three hours after waking is not convenient. Would taking it one or two hours after waking and then three hours later and then again three hours later be accurate in determining whether or not I have low body temperature?

The idea is to take your temperatures during the day when they're supposed to be their highest. You could try taking your temperature on a day off, every hour from the time that you wake up, for about 4 hours. If you see that 2 hours after waking your temperature tends to be as high as it is 3 hours after waking then starting 2 hours after waking might be fine. The temperature tends to be lower upon waking and then goes higher during the day, and lower again at night. If your temperature is averaging low during the day when it should be at its highest, that is a good indicator it is too low. Let's say you wanted to pursue treatment but you didn't want to take your temperature 3 hours after waking but every 3 hours starting 2 hours after waking. And let's say that you found that by measuring your temps starting 2 hours after waking your temperature averages .4 degrees lower than it does when you measure starting 3 hours after waking. One thing you could do is take your temperatures starting 2 hours after waking and strive for getting your average temperature (taken in that way) to be 98.6-.4 = 98.2. That way you won't be taking extra medicine just because you're taking your temperature earlier in the day. This is quite complicated and I hesitate to even put it up for fear that it might confuse someone. The idea is to see how well you feel when your temperature is running closer to normal. Hope that helps, Denis Wilson, MD

I have a very high level of the thyroid peroxidase antibodies. My T4, T3, TSH levels are all in the normal range. My temperature is low, 97.6 this afternoon, for example. I have 24 other symptoms typical of WTS. Could the antibodies be interfering with the thyroid action in my system? Do you think T3 protocol could help?

A low temperature is plenty to explain symptoms consistent with low thyroid function. The T3 protocol is often helpful in patients with low temperatures regardless of blood test results. T3 can often normalize body temperatures even when all thyroid tests are completely normal. Thyroid peroxidase antibodies are often present in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (an autoimmune disease against the thyroid gland). The T3 protocol and/or thyroid herbal support (such as ThyroCare, and Thyroid Px are often helpful in patients with Hashimoto's. Best wishes, Denis Wilson, MD

I have been initiating the WTS med supplements (Thyrocare, Adaptogen, Healthy Foundation) for two months. My oral temp. varies between 97.6 to 98.0. Am in good health with diet, exercise, nutritional and herbal support. The two symptoms that are most bothersome are mild fatigue in late afternoon and cool lower leg and feet. In my mid seventies, never on any medications. My state of uncertainty is this---have I initiated the WTS med supplements long enough for my temperature to increase to the desired level--hence, should I continue the WTS med supplements for a longer period of time. I would appreciate any input that you may wish to contribute. Thank you, Robert

Usually people notice improvements in the first 2-3 months. Some people find they do better when they take a little higher amounts of the products than they were taking. Best regards, Denis Wilson, MD
