I am one of Dr. Wilson's patients from the days when he was in Longwood, FL. I came to him in a state of depression and absolutely no energy. I felt as if my life was slipping away and I was only in my middle thirty's. I was told I need to go on anti-depression medication but I always felt that was not the problem. I heard Dr. Wilson's advertisement on the radio and it sounded just like what I was feeling. I made the appointment and after he evaluated me and started me on the medication within a week I felt my body start to come back alive again. Over the years I have had to go back on the treatment a few times, but only after extented periods of high stress. I have recommended other people to the treatment and most have had very good success. The ones that did not have good results had Dr.'s that did not follow the protocol to the letter. I thank Dr. Wilson for helping me to get my life back. It has been eighteen years and I am still going strong. Terry C.

Is it possible that the fluoride contained in certain foods and drink, incuding de-caffeinated green tea, can interfere with thyroid function and thus the T3 XR protocol? I have read articles to this effect.

Fluorine, Chlorine, Bromine, and Iodine are all halogens. In other words, they are from the same chemical family. The arrangement of their protons and neutrons and electrons are similar. For this reason, Fluorine, Chlorine, and Bromine can displace Iodine in the body. This can result in Iodine deficiency which can lead to decreased thyroid function since Iodine is important in the manufacture of thyroid hormones by the body. But the WT3 protocol bypasses production of the thyroid hormones by giving the T3 directly. To my knowledge, fluoride doesn't interfere directly with the action of T3. Therefore, fluoride in foods probably wouldn't affect the WT3 protocol per se very much. However, it is true that some people who aren't doing well on T3 alone do seem to improve when given ThyroCare and/or Thyroid Px as well. ThyroCare and Thyroid Px contain Iodine. So it is theoretically possible that fluoride could affect the WT3 protocol in some unknown way. Hope that helps, Denis Wilson, MD

I have been taking Cytomel for approximately 1 month. I take the medication 10 mcg twice a day. Everything is going well, except I am experiencing a disturbing side effect. For about two hours prior to the time for taking my second dose, my heart starts missing beats. After I take my second dose for the day, the palpitations stop until just prior to time for taking my next dose. Ever heard of this before?

Yes, I have heard of this. Cytomel is instant-release T3. The body naturally makes T3 gradually around the clock. In effect, the body generates T3 24-hours-a-day. Therefore, it's unnatural to take instant release T3 in two doses each day because this dumps the T3 into the system twice a day instead of around the clock. Though some people tolerate this satisfactorily, many will experience palpitations, especially on higher doses (10mcg twice a day is a fairly low dose, and represents only a small portion of the total T3 the body uses each day). It's understandable that the palpitations are worse just before the next dose, when the T3 levels are dropping to their lowest. For the above reasons, we recommend sustained release T3 according to the WT3 protocol which can be described as "How to use T3 in order to maximize benefits and minimize side effects." Best wishes! Denis Wilson, MD

Does sipping on cool liquids all day cause a problem with maintaining temperature? Thank you.

I don't believe so. I've never seen a correlation there. Warmly, Denis Wilson, MD
