Did you know that studies show that less than 25% of Type II Diabetics are able to achieve adequate blood sugar control with drugs (oral hypoglycemic agents) such as Glyburide and Glucophage?

Good control is important in limiting the damaging effects of Diabetes on the body.

Of those patients that do respond adequately to drugs, about 25% become resistant to the drugs and require increases in their dosages. And drugs are not aimed at correcting the problem so there is no prospect of cure. They are aimed at controlling blood sugar levels.

Drugs can also cause side effects such as flu-like symptoms, heart and kidney problems, diverticulosis, and depression.

Diabetes and High Blood Pressure commonly occur together. Unfortunately, certain blood pressure medicines (like beta blockers and calcium channel blockers) can decrease the body's sensitivity to insulin by 10-40%. Likewise, drugs for diabetes can sometimes worsen the cardiovascular complications of diabetes, and can sometimes worsen High Blood Pressure.

In some cases, herbs can help lower blood sugar levels when drugs could not. And whereas oral hypoglycemic drugs are intended to control diabetes, not reverse it, some patients treated with herbs are able to get their blood sugars down and remain normal off the herbs.

Herbs can also be used in combination with drugs for diabetes to help lower blood sugar levels, and side effects are minimal.
